Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER), commonly referred to as Bharath University, is a Deemed‑to‑be‑University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), established under the Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust. Its origins date back to 1984, when the Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was started as the first self‑financing engineering college in Tamil Nadu.
